Mike Shabb combines his syncretic delivery (hinting at his Canadian-Hatain background) with a fresh batch of Jazz samples to create his piece, Shabbvangough . Mike Shabb’s staccato flow works well in small spaces, and it created the room for his production to feel more expansive across the album. My favorite example is on “underground legend”, which has my favorite sample chops of 2025 paired with a light-hearted, controlled flow that steps across the loop like Shabb Gilgeous-Alexander. The cherry on top of this album for me was his iconic soundboard, which functioned as an adlib, exclamation point, and a painter’s signature. Shabbvangough quickly became my most recommended album of the year, and Mike Shabb has no signs of slowing down. Shabb has since dropped two additional albums this year, Fight the Power! and Melting Faces Vol. 1 , adding to the depth and range of his discography.
