Sankofa
December 4

Sankofa is built on honesty, with lines like “Ducking and dodging psychosis got my heartbeat tired” setting a clear tone of vulnerability. This is Redveil documenting the experiences that shaped him. At just 21, Redveil delivers this emotionally grounded project.

Sanfoka is reckoning with Black boyhood, ambition, and the pressure of growing up in the spotlight too fast. Thrust into success before he could vote, this record plays like his response. Circling back to understand who he’s been so he can move forward with intention. The singles “brown sugar,” “lone star,” and “mini me” only hint at the depth here. While his ear for beats has always been undeniable, this album shows Redveil trusting the instrumentation more than ever. Warm neo-soul and jazz textures carry the weight. Johnny May’s production, Luke Titus’s elastic drums, and brassy flourishes give the record room to breathe and feel lived in.

Over trap drums, grimy bass, and uneasy silences, Redveil traces his childhood before the shift hits. Bells, brass, and the gut punch line “Thirteen years I planned my suicide.” It’s devastating and honest in a way that lingers. Redveil goes back to go forward. Sankofa is spiritually grounded, quietly triumphant, and easily one of the most powerful moments in his catalog.

A true 2025 buzzerbeater.
