I remember (pretty well in fact), the first time I listened to SABLE, fABLE : I was out of my mind hungover in the passenger seat driving to Rhode Island, and feeling that I was on the verge of deteriorating. All the sudden, the album’s warmth and unanticipated brightness cut through all of that. What would have felt overwhelming instead landed as grounding. Justin Vernon’s shift toward joy, pop, and soul felt like a gentle hug pulling me back into the moment, and my hangover didn’t feel as bad anymore.
