Jessie Reyez
March 28
I was first introduced to Jessie Reyez with “Figures” and “Apple Juice”: two painstakingly beautiful songs that address the difficulties of navigating relationships that are better off ending. Paid in Memories was completely contrasting to what I thought I knew about Jessie Reyez, and I was pleasantly surprised. While tracks like “**CUDN’T BE ME**” still tap into Reyez’s sentimental storytelling, a majority of the album is a bouncy pop-based project that balances the woes of girlhood while being a space for releasing inhibitions. With additional R&B and Hip-Hop influences, this album has an infectious vibe from start to finish.
More importantly, who do I need to talk to about hearing “**Palo Santo**” in the club?
