hooke’s law had me absolutely in love from the first listen. keiyaA is a master of her craft: a brilliant producer and multi-instrumentalist with a breathtaking voice and an explorative mind. This album goes all over the place in the best way, following her stream of consciousness as she goes through this life and everything that comes with it. She combines sounds of R&B, experimental electronic, hip-hop, and jazz music for a unique concoction that we can’t get enough of.
“i h8 u” is a landlord hate anthem that suddenly bursts wide open and catapults us into the skies as “stupid prizes” comes in, where keiyaA sings feelings of misery over heavenly harmonies (an intentional + interesting juxtaposition). “k.i.s.s.” is a thumping, danceable R&B track that I’ve had on repeat for weeks. “fire sign oath” is a racing journey through the emotions keiyaA experiences while facing a broken relationship. Every track has something special to it, and I know I’ll be falling in love with a new song each time I go back for another listen.
